All the learning in the world cannot replace instinct – Robert Ley

Freelance Days – Election Years Past

I worked for many years as an editorial illustrator, creating illustrations for papers and magazines mostly. I avoided doing a lot of commercial work – advertising agency stuff, just because you would end up making really nice, polite drawings all the time, smiling, picnicking families, sunny days, helpful parents and joyful children. It was hard to get excited about.

Politics was a much more engaging subject. This being election season, I’m going to post some of the politics illustrations I did over the years.

This was a cover illustration for a story titled Clinton and the Press.

The less effort, the faster and more powerful you will be – Bruce Lee

My optimism wears heavy boots and is loud – Henry Rollins

Now is the winter of our discontent – William Shakespeare
